Many people don’t realize that teeth are living structures subject to infection. When bacteria invade the soft tissue that fills the inner chamber of a tooth (pulp), the only way to resolve the issue is through a root canal. 

The process involves removing all traces of infected pulp from the tooth before sealing it and protecting it with a new dental crown. Root canals were once a dreaded dental procedure, but advancements in dental technology have made today’s root canals simple and painless.

You can’t see into the inner chamber of your teeth, which is filled with a soft tissue called pulp. Your pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues and can become infected if bacteria enter. 

When you arrive for your treatment, you’ll receive an injection of numbing medication to eliminate sensation in the treatment area. Your dentist then creates a small opening in your tooth to access the inner chamber. 

A series of small dental tools called files are used to remove all traces of dental pulp, including down into the canals of the tooth roots. The cleared chamber is rinsed to remove any lingering pulp before a dental material called gutta-percha is used to fill the chamber. 

We’ll place a small filling to close the opening in your tooth and remove a portion of the natural tooth tissue to prepare for your new dental crown. We’ll also make impressions to guide the fabrication of the crown and place a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth. 

Once your new crown arrives, you’ll return to have it checked for appearance and fit before it’s cemented into place. This completes your restoration, and your tooth will look and function just like your natural teeth
